Tanzania President Samia Suluhu’s Husband Dies of Heart Condition

ZANZIBAR, Tanzania — September 7, 2026 — Hafidh Ameir Hassan, husband of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, has died following a heart-related illness.

His death was announced on Monday, September 7, 2026, by Tanzania’s Vice President, Deogratius Ndejembi.

Ndejembi said Hafidh died at Emilio Mzena Memorial Hospital in Zanzibar at around 8 a.m., where he had been receiving treatment for a heart condition.

“It is with great sadness that I inform you of the death of Hafidh Ameir Hassan, husband of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan,” Ndejembi said.

The Vice President conveyed his condolences to President Samia, the deceased’s family, relatives, friends and Tanzanians across the country.

He said preparations for Hafidh’s burial were underway in Kizimkazi, Zanzibar.

Hafidh Ameir Hassan was the husband of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who became Tanzania’s first female president in March 2021 following the death of President John Pombe Magufuli.
