Bishop Dr. Gahima Manasseh, the Bishop of Gahini Diocese and President of the Council of Protestant Churches in Rwanda (CEPR), has been elected the new Archbishop of the Anglican Church in Rwanda.
He was elected on Friday, September 11, 2026, during a meeting of the church’s leadership.
Bishop Gahima succeeds Archbishop Dr. Laurent Mbanda, who served as head of the Anglican Church in Rwanda for eight years. Mbanda also serves as President of the Global Anglican Council, which represents the GAFCON movement.
The newly elected Archbishop holds a PhD in Theology.
Before joining full-time Christian ministry, Gahima served the country in various positions, including as a leader at Lycée de Kigali.
Between 1995 and 1997, he served as the mayor of Karangazi and Gabiro communes.
His election marks a new chapter for the Anglican Church in Rwanda, with Gahima expected to take on the leadership of the church while continuing to contribute to the wider Protestant community through his role in CEPR.
