SALALAH, Oman — President Paul Kagame has arrived in Salalah, Oman, where he was welcomed by Sultan Haitham bin Tariq as he began a two-day official visit aimed at strengthening relations between Rwanda and Oman and expanding cooperation in key areas.
The visit marks President Kagame’s first official visit to Oman and is expected to provide an opportunity for the two countries to deepen their existing relationship while exploring new areas of partnership.
The visit began with an official welcoming ceremony before President Kagame held talks with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq. The discussions were followed by talks between delegations from Rwanda and Oman.
The leaders are expected to focus on strengthening bilateral relations and identifying additional sectors where the two countries can expand cooperation.
During the second day of his visit, President Kagame is scheduled to tour the Museum of the Frankincense Land, located within the Al Baleed Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The museum has two main sections. The Heritage Hall presents the history and heritage of the region, including the role of the frankincense trade in shaping the social and economic development of Dhofar. The Maritime Hall highlights Oman’s long history of maritime travel and trade.
President Kagame is also expected to visit the Razat Royal Farm, a major agricultural facility in the Dhofar Governorate covering more than 404 hectares. The farm is involved in agricultural activities as well as education and agriculture-based tourism.
Sultan Haitham is also scheduled to host President Kagame and his delegation for a luncheon during the visit.
Rwanda and Oman have maintained relations built on longstanding historical links, and the current visit is expected to further strengthen those ties.
Several agreements and memoranda of understanding are also expected to be signed during the visit, covering different areas of cooperation between the two countries.
The visit comes as Rwanda continues to expand its diplomatic and economic partnerships beyond traditional markets, while Oman seeks to strengthen its engagement with African countries and explore new opportunities for cooperation.
