During the press conference of 10th July 2024, the Social Party (PS) Imberakuri detailed their ambitious plans for Rwanda if elected in the upcoming July elections. The party emphasized the importance of environmental protection and sustainable development.
President of PS Imberakuri, MUKABUNANI Christine, highlighted the party’s focus on integrating environmental considerations into the national master plan. “We want to ensure that trees are planted in all new developments,” she explained, underscoring the party’s commitment to green spaces.
Addressing climate change, the party leader stressed the need for all government bodies receiving budget allocations to demonstrate how their activities will protect the environment.
“All organs that are given funds should first show how their actions will safeguard the environment,” she stated.
One of the key proposals is the development of Rwanda Meteorology Agency, the national meteorological service. “We will advocate for the development of Meteo Rwanda and the establishment of meteorology as a field of study in Rwanda. This will ensure that we have accurate disaster preparedness plans, reducing the loss of lives and properties,” she said.
Accurate meteorological data is crucial for agriculture, disaster management, and public safety, helping communities to prepare for adverse weather conditions and mitigate their impact.
Mukabunani also emphasized the importance of promoting fruit cultivation to enhance food security and reduce costs. “We will advocate for the replacement of bamboo trees near rivers with fruit-bearing trees. Rwandans need affordable fruits,” she explained, highlighting the dual benefits of environmental protection and improved nutrition.
PS Imberakuri, established in 2008 and starting its political activities in 2009, is symbolized by a rainbow in its logo, representing inclusivity and hope for all Rwandans. The party’s platform is built on the principle that sustainable development and environmental protection are essential for the country’s future.
As the election date approaches, PS Imberakuri’s clear vision for environmental sustainability and economic improvement presents a compelling case for voters seeking comprehensive change.
