Charlene Ruto, daughter of Kenyan President William Ruto, has expressed frustration over restrictions imposed by her father’s security officers during her wedding celebrations, after they reportedly prevented some of her friends from accompanying her.
Charlene married Isaya Yunge in a ceremony held in Tanzania, attended by several prominent personalities, including her father, President William Ruto, and other regional leaders.
According to Kenya’s The Star newspaper, in a report published on Sunday, November 8, 2026, Charlene appeared displeased with the strict security arrangements, which reportedly restricted some of her friends from walking alongside her during the celebrations.
Videos recorded at the event showed Charlene making gestures towards security officers, asking them to allow her friends to accompany her. However, the officers initially appeared unwilling to relax the restrictions.
The situation prompted President William Ruto to intervene in an attempt to calm tensions and address the disagreement between his daughter and the security team.
As Charlene continued insisting that her friends be allowed to accompany her, the Kenyan President was heard telling her, “Eeeeh wewe,” seemingly encouraging her to calm down.
Charlene, however, remained visibly unhappy with the officers’ conduct, telling her father: “Your security officers are too much, they are extremely strict.”
The incident occurred as Charlene sought to enjoy her wedding celebrations alongside her friends, but the security arrangements appeared to interfere with how she wanted the occasion to unfold.
Despite the brief disagreement, the wedding proceeded with the attendance of several prominent figures from Kenya and the wider East African region.
Among the distinguished guests were Rwanda’s First Lady, Jeannette Kagame, and Ida Odinga, widow of former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Several Kenyan Cabinet ministers and county leaders also attended the celebrations to join President Ruto’s family in marking the occasion.
The incident attracted attention after videos showing the interaction between Charlene, her father and the presidential security officers circulated, highlighting the challenges of balancing presidential security requirements with personal celebrations.
