Kenyan long-distance runner Sabastian Sawe made history after becoming the first athlete to complete the London Marathon in under two hours.
Sawe achieved the remarkable feat on Sunday, April 26, 2026, during the 46th edition of the race held in London, United Kingdom.
He clinched gold after covering the 42.2-kilometre distance in an astonishing time of 1 hour, 59 minutes, and 30 seconds—setting a new milestone in the history of the race.
The event attracted more than 59,000 participants, including elite athletes and recreational runners. It also featured notable personalities such as Sebastian Vettel and Samantha Spiro, among others.
Sawe, who also won the marathon in 2025, led a highly competitive field. He was closely followed by Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha, who finished in 1 hour, 59 minutes, and 41 seconds.
Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo secured third place, crossing the finish line in 2 hours and 28 seconds.
The London Marathon, widely regarded as one of the world’s most prestigious long-distance races, once again delivered a historic moment—this time with Sawe pushing the limits of human endurance to a whole new level.
