The City of Kigali has announced it will temporarily close 10 buildings that fail to meet fire safety requirements from Friday, November 6, 2026, at 7 p.m., to allow urgent corrective measures.
In a statement issued on November 4, 2026, the City of Kigali said the decision followed ongoing inspections to assess compliance with fire prevention regulations.
The affected buildings are Catchup Building in Gisementi, Gatenga Industrial Zone, Gahanga Industrial Zone, Rwanda Foam Showroom in Gikondo, KAL Plaza in Gikondo and N&B Plaza in Kigarama.
The list also includes Eden Tower, Matheus House, Ntaganzwa House and Ndaru Arcade, all located in Nyarugenge District.
The city explained that the measures are intended to protect lives and property, including those of business owners, employees and customers.
“Owners and managers of these buildings, as well as all other individuals whose premises were found to have issues requiring attention during the inspections, are urged to address the identified fire safety shortcomings promptly,” the statement said.
The closures will be temporary. Buildings that meet the required safety standards will be allowed to reopen after inspection and approval.
“Any building that fulfils the required fire safety standards will immediately be authorised to reopen once it has been inspected and confirmed to be compliant,” the statement added.
The City of Kigali also reminded all building owners and managers of their responsibility to maintain their premises and consistently comply with fire prevention regulations to protect the lives and property of occupants, workers and visitors.
