Rayon Sports interim president Murenzi Abdallah has said the club will now focus on the Rwandan Premier League, also known as the BK Pro League, after being eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup, with winning the domestic title set as its main objective for the 2026/27 season.
Rayon Sports were knocked out by Mozambique’s Black Bulls in the second qualifying round of the CAF Confederation Cup after losing 4-2 on aggregate across the two legs.
Speaking to supporters who welcomed the team in Maputo on Saturday following their elimination, Murenzi said the club had shifted its attention to the domestic league. He emphasised that winning the title was part of the commitment made by the club’s management to the coaching staff and players.
“It is difficult to fight on two fronts. Our players were heavily focused on these matches because they were important. Our agreement with the coach and his technical staff, as well as with the players, is that we must win this season’s league title,” he said.
Rayon Sports will now return to the BK Pro League facing the challenge of climbing the standings, having had some of its league fixtures postponed because of its participation in African competitions.
By the sixth matchday of the league, Rayon Sports had played only two matches and collected one point. The team drew against Sunrise FC and lost to Gorilla FC, leaving it at the bottom of the standings.
Upon returning to Rwanda, the blue-and-white side is scheduled to host Mukura VS before travelling to face Marine FC and later visiting Al Hilal SC.
Rayon Sports last won the Rwandan Premier League title in the 2018/19 season.
