Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has thanked God for saving the life of his wife, Janet Kataaha Museveni, who has been experiencing health problems, saying she is now continuing to recover.
Museveni made the remarks on October 8, 2026, when he and Janet attended national prayer services held at the President’s Office in Entebbe.
In a message posted on X, Museveni said his first expression of gratitude was to God for protecting his wife’s life and continuing to help her recover.
“First and foremost, I thank God for protecting Maama’s life and for her continued recovery,” he said.
Museveni also used the occasion to remind Ugandans that everyone has talents given to them by God. He urged citizens to make the most of those gifts through hard work and by using them to contribute to the country’s development.
Janet Museveni’s health concerns became publicly known earlier this year when she missed several important events, including President Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony on May 12, 2026, and their grandchild’s wedding.
In June 2026, Museveni said his wife had been seriously ill but had received medical care that helped her condition improve.
Janet Museveni is the wife of President Museveni and Uganda’s Minister of Education and Sports. The couple married in London, United Kingdom, in August 1973. In 2023, they renewed their marriage vows to mark 50 years of marriage.
