Rusizi: Woman Found Dead in Her Kitchen, Husband Suspected of Murder

Residents of Rusizi District were left in shock after discovering the body of a young woman in her kitchen, with authorities suspecting that she was killed by her husband following ongoing domestic disputes.

The incident occurred on the night of Saturday, January 24, to Sunday, January 25, 2026, in Muhora Village, Mataba Cell, Nkungu Sector.

The deceased has been identified as Nyirandayisenga Chantal, a 24-year-old mother, who was found dead inside her kitchen.

Confirming the incident, the Executive Secretary of Nkungu Sector, Habimana Emmanuel, said the death was discovered in the early hours of the morning.

“The incident was discovered at around 9:00 a.m. The woman is believed to have been killed by her husband, who has since disappeared,” he said.

The husband, Sindayiheba Jean de Dieu, is the prime suspect in the killing and is currently on the run.

According to local authorities, responders found the couple’s children locked inside the house. The eldest child, aged seven, managed to escape through a window and alerted neighbors, reporting that his parents had fought throughout the night.

Habimana Emmanuel noted that the family had a history of domestic conflict and urged residents to report troubled households before disputes escalate into fatal violence.

“We remind residents to report families experiencing serious conflicts in time, as such situations can lead to loss of life,” he said.

Security organs and officers from the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) arrived at the scene and have launched an investigation into the matter. The search for the suspect is ongoing.
