Uganda’s national football team, the Uganda Cranes, has expressed interest in playing a friendly match against Rwanda’s Amavubi, potentially at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali or Hoima City Stadium in Uganda.
On Monday, November 2, 2026, the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) publicly expressed interest in seeing the two national teams face each other.
In a social media post featuring the players called up by both countries for their respective 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches, FUFA described the rivalry between the two nations as one that brings pride to both sides.
“ The rivalry between Uganda and Rwanda is real. Fans, be honest, don’t you think it’s time for a match soon? How about a friendly between Rwanda and Uganda at Hoima City Stadium or Amahoro Stadium?” FUFA posted.
The proposal sparked mixed reactions among football fans. Some argued that the current Amavubi team could defeat Uganda, while others maintained that the Uganda Cranes remain a strong side that Rwanda would struggle to overcome.
The two national teams last met in 2021 during the qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Uganda won both matches.
Overall, Rwanda and Uganda have faced each other 13 times, with Uganda recording four wins, Rwanda two victories and four draws, according to the figures provided.
Their two most recent friendly matches were played in 2013, with both encounters ending in 0–0 draws.
